Saturday's Run - HH Poole - 6:30 a.m.

This Saturday we will meet at HH Poole for a change of pace. We will also meet 1/2 earlier, at 6:30 a.m. to avoid a little more of the high temps of July.

We will be focusing on the hill that HH Poole sits on and possibly a few runs around their track. By the way, HH Poole is the middle school that is on Eustace Road.

We will meet again on July 19th, but not on July 26th. Next week will be a "field trip" to one of the local battlefields for a 5-7 mile run. Details to follow next week re: meeting time (6 a.m.) and location.

My training has been HORRIBLE recently, so I'm looking forward to some accountability to get me out and running some distance again!

June 28th - Hill & Speed Work

Our next meeting will be on June 28th and we will be doing hill & speed work. We will probably meet at a different location, so make sure to check back for details.

Check out this article for a fun looking 5K. It's sold out for this year but may be one to add for the calendar next year.

I finally have a GPS for running - I've been actively searching craigslist for a used 205 or 305 and got a great deal on a 305 - although it's essentially a 205 because it didn't come with the heart monitor stuff. I have to admit that I love gadgets and this one in particular is awesome. I love that I can know what my pace is in real time. I was surprised at how slow I run up the hill on Mine Road, but I was also thrilled to see how fast I run down Northampton. I'm also looking forward to being able to run a trail and know how far I've gone - always tricky to figure that out when you can't do the mileage with your car. :)

Get out and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Blessings,
Karen

June 14th - Next Run

It's hot! Too hot for the faint at heart to run. Hopefully it will cool off by next Saturday. I wimped out of running this morning - it was foggy and I was genuinely concerned about safety - but I think the humidity probably had a little more influence.

Run this Saturday, May 31st

What better to do on the last day of May than to run a few miles? Join us this Saturday at 7 a.m. in the Rodney Thompson Middle School parking lot.For those who aren't quite up to the 5 mile mark...if you're at 3 miles, I know you can do 5 so come on out!

Great thought for the day - it won't be long before we will be meeting in our church parking lot to head out for our runs :)

By the way, last Saturday, I ran the path from Gravelly Point to Rosslyn and around Roosevelt Island. I'm jealous of those who live in No VA or DC who have easy access to such great running. While I enjoyed the run, I got to follow it up with a 2 hour traffic jam trying to get back home.

Blessings,Karen

Healthy Lifestyle Expo - Marine Corp 1/2

This Sunday is the Marine Corps Historic Half in Fredericksburg. There's an expo in conjuction with the race at the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center (where they're doing packet pickup). It's free, even if you're not running in the 1/2.

Here's more info - MCM Healthy Lifestyle Expo

Next Run - Probably May 31

Typically, the next run would be May 24th, but as that is Memorial Day Weekend, I think I'll postpone to the 31st. Check back though - it may still change. :)

Here's the elevation chart of our last run through Augustine, courtesy of Danielle's cool Garmin GPS.

It makes the run look very impressive, but it's actually a great run - nice gentle hills.
